THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS AT FRASER The new Fraser Kids Club brings cheer to children
20 Dec 2002 - Singapore
Merriment is possible even during crunch times. Fraser, the premier international serviced residence chain, has set out to bring Christmas joy to the hearts of expatriate and local children with the launch of its Fraser Kids’ Club – the first of its kind in the serviced residence industry in Singapore. At the launch today, 30 children from Touch Community Services join more than 20 children and residents for a Christmas fun fiesta. The children will enjoy a day of party games and snacks at Fraser, Christmas carolling by the Fraser Choir and a free movie-screening of “Santa vs The Snowman” sponsored by Golden Village Grand. “Despite these being tough times, we believe that the joy of Christmas should be shared by all,” said Chief Operating Officer Choe Peng Sum. “We are delighted to share the Christmas cheer with the children from Touch, and that both residents and staff have been most enthusiastic in their efforts to do so.” A donation drive was started on December 1 at both Fraser properties in Singapore. Most of the staff and residents have contributed loads of toys, books and clothing to the collection, which will be given to the children from Touch. Even before the launch of the Kids’ Club, young residents at Fraser had enjoyed activities with the children from Touch. With the launch, more interactions are on the way. “We are very happy with this growing relationship and we are planning to contribute to even more children’s homes in 2003,” affirmed Mr Choe. “Most of our residents are expatriates and their families who are here on medium-term business projects,” said Mr Choe. “The opportunity to interact with the less fortunate and contribute to their well-being brings an invaluable dimension of their experience in Singapore. It is also a fun multicultural exchange for the children.” Said Mr William Nixon, a resident who has volunteered for the role of Santa Claus and taken the day off for his Christmas mission, ““I believe in the spirit of Christmas and I feel terrific to be able to spend my time for others. To be able to bring a smile to a child’s face during this special time of the year is simply wonderful.” To perfect his look for the part, Mr Nixon bought his Santa Claus outfit from the US and had his wife add the final touches to the costume. The Fraser Kids’ Club was launched to build camaraderie and encourage community service amongst young residents at Fraser. “We realised that relocation could be trying on young ones. To help young residents better adapt to living in a foreign land and to develop their characters, we started this club.” the Club include learning hobby crafts, movie-screenings at Golden Village’s theatre, educational trips, themed in-house programmes and a pen-pal programme among children living at other Fraser’s properties worldwide. In Singapore, there are plans to partner with Fraser and Neave, Malls of Centrepoint and Times the Bookshop for more programmes. As part of the launch, a mascot in the form of a caring and courageous duck was developed, together with a plush toy of the duck mascot and a children’s welcome kit. At the party today, the children from the Fraser Kids’ Club and Touch will participate in a “Name-the-Mascot” contest. All children will receive the pioneer batch of children’s welcome kit. Added Mr Choe, “The Kids’ Club is just one of the many efforts that are carried out to address the needs of extended stay business travellers and their families who are looking for the efficiency and services of five-star hotels and the warmth of a home environment.” The Kids’ Club in all Fraser properties globally will be launched by January 2003. Fraser is also the first international serviced residence chain in South Asia to provide spa services, full Internet, e-commerce and email connectivity in every unit. Besides work amenities, Fraser is unique in providing Lifestyle Plus Packages to meet the needs of each individual guest – from the homemaker to the little ones. Other offerings include activities and programs for families and singles, excursions to tourist spots for spouses and children of guests; a full-serviced Business Centre, children s play zones, swimming pool, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor cafés. The complimentary shuttle services to key business and shopping districts is the most comprehensive among those provided by major hotels and serviced residences in the central business district.
