West Coast Chicken Festival: Perth’s newest celebration of all things poultry

We’ll give you one guess what the West Coast Chicken Festival is all about, and here’s a hint: it’s not beef. On Saturday the 21st of March, the inaugural event will fly into iconic venue The Camfield for a day of entertainment, drinks and oh-so-much chicken overlooking Optus Stadium and the Swan River. Perth’s best poultry specialists will be plating up their very best to the backdrop of DJs, live music, chicken eating competitions and celebrity hot wings sessions, so snap up your tickets before they sell out.

Session 2: 5pm to 12am (18+ only)

There are plenty of reasons to be heading to the West Coast Chicken Festival, but the food is undoubtedly the most important. The schedule

Session 1: 11 am to 4 pm (family friendly)

Session 1 will feature live music and a DJ, plus a chicken eating competition from 1 to 2pm. More on that below.

Session 2: 5 pm to midnight (over 18s)

Session 2 will continue in similar form with more live music, DJ sets and the second leg of the chicken eating competition from 7 to 8pm. There will also be a Celebrity Hot Ones Competition hosted by local funnyman Adrian Alaberg with guests including ex-AFL players Chris Masten, Quinten Lynch, Ryan Crowley and Rhys Palmer. Who can bury the most Wings of Death smothered in the lethal Dingo Sauce? 

The chicken eating competition

As for the public chicken eating competition, any ticket holder aged 18 or over can enter for the chance to face off with fellow chook enthusiasts in a bid for the $500 grand prize. The challenge? Eat your personal four-kilogram bucket of chicken drumsticks faster than anyone else. The competition has two legs – one in each session – so you’ll need to be the fastest across both sessions to win the cash. Getting there

The Camfield is located next door to Optus Stadium in the sunny parklands of Burswood and right by the Matagarup Bridge. This is fantastic news for anyone staying at Fraser Suites Perth: our fully furnished serviced apartments are ideally located at the southeastern end of the CBD, making The Camfield a leisurely 20 to 25 minute stroll past the WACA and over the Matagarup Bridge. It’s also possible to take a quick cab or rideshare over the Causeway, but it’s a pleasant walk that’s worth the cost saving.

If you’re heading to the festival from elsewhere in Perth, your best bet is to catch a train to Perth Stadium station and walk to the venue on foot in less than 10 minutes.
