Enjoy the ultimate city break to Paris
There’s nothing quite like a city break to a beautiful European capital - and there’s something particularly special about Paris. After many months of lockdown, it’s time to treat the family to the best that Paris has to offer.
Discover a city steeped in history
If you’re keen to explore Paris’s cultural heritage, the most obvious place to start is the Louvre. With its vast collections of fine art, which includes the famed Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo, and its controversial glass pyramid, this wondrous 12th-century palace offers no end of priceless treasures. There are guided tours for families, in addition to workshops for children above the age of four.
If you fancy something a little more modern, head down to the Centre Pompidou, Paris’s inside-out, spaceship-esque landmark. The largest and most important collection of modern art in all of Europe, the Pompidou offers artistic workshops for children between the ages of 6-10.
There’s also no shortage of stunning religious sites to visit. The Saint-Denis Basilica is a towering jewel of Gothic art and architecture, and it also serves as the final resting place of forty two of France’s kings, thirty two of its queens and sixty three of its princes and princesses.
Discover the wild (but also family-friendly) side of Paris
Paris’s National Museum of Natural History has enthralled visitors for hundreds of years. The Grande Galerie de l’Évolution is a must-see if you’re travelling with children, featuring life-sized elephants, tigers, rhinos and many thousands of preserved animal specimens.
Within this building, you’ll also find the Galerie des Enfants. This hands-on science museum is aimed at children between the ages of 6-12, and it addresses biodiversity and environmental problems in a fun, practical manner.
Dine in style in the most breathtaking of surroundings
There are few better places to dine in style than in the monument that has come to define Paris: the Eiffel Tower. Children are given the opportunity to learn more about the tower’s construction and controversial history, and there’s a lift to the second floor if the thought of dragging the kids up multiple flights of steps fills you with dread. The tower’s Michelin-starred restaurant, Jules Verne, is spread across three rooms and offers breathtaking views over the Champ-de-Mars, Quai Branly and Trocadéro.
La City restaurant is located on the rooftop of the Grande Arche and offers traditional French cuisine with a modern twist, in addition to breathtaking views of Paris. Visitors are advised to book two days in advance in order to get a table for lunch.
