Burrawa Bridgeclimb
Take your understanding of Sydney’s Indigenous culture and history to new heights with BridgeClimb’s Burrawa Climb. Guided by Aboriginal storytellers, climbers have the opportunity to look down on the shores where Patyegarang taught William Dawes the language of Sydney, learn the origins of Bennelong Point and Barangaroo and listen to stories that span thousands of years to the present day as they make their way to the summit.
Ghost tours of The Rocks
If your kids like a good ghost story, visit historical sites around The Rocks and experience spine-tingling paranormal activity. Each night when the sun goes down, The Rocks Ghost Tours concentrates on the more macabre aspect of Sydney’s old sandstone town. The Nightly Ghost Tour starts at 7:45pm sharp and runs for between 1.5 and 2 hours.
Go bobsledding in Thredbo
Approximately a five-hour drive from Sydney the stunning Snowy Mountains village is just as magic before the first flakes descend. It’s also just as much fun, with its 700-metre alpine bobsled track that twists and turns down the mountain. Kids need to be at least nine years old and 130cm-tall to ride solo, and smaller members may ride with an adult.
Sydney Tower experiences
Sydney Tower Eye and SkyFeast Restaurant have collaborated to create an action-packed afternoon towering above the city. The Sydney Tower VIP Experience kicks off on the Sydney Tower Eye Observation Deck, followed by an outdoor Skywalk that circumnavigates the tower before reaching the transparent platform 268 metres above-ground. Reward your efforts with a lunch at the relaunched SkyFeast Restaurant, where you’ll dine with a 360-degree rotating view of Sydney.
Taronga Western Plains Zoo safari
At Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo (approx. five-hour drive from Sydney), you can see the zoo from a different perspective by exploring on a bike or a self-drive cart. Setting out on two wheels allows you to travel smaller trails and the terrain is largely flat, making it an easy ride for most. Cool off afterward with a visit to the newest enclosure, the Waterhole, where kids can frolic under water jets.
Self-guided escape walks, Port Macquarie
Solve clues and beat the clock with the self-guided escape walks around Port Macquarie's coastal path and town centre. The walks vary in level of complexity of challenge and accessibility, ranging from 1 - 2.5 hours. On April 10th, 11th, 17th, and 18th, there will be a special ‘Live Action Escape Walk’, commemorating 200 years of Port Macquarie-Hastings past. These events will immerse Adventures in the action, in a journey to crack the clues and reach the end.
Ride camels at Oakfield Ranch
A veritable all-ages paradise, Port Stephens beckons in the school holidays with dolphin spotting, swimming, kayaking up the Myall River, cruises, 4WD tours, and sandboarding the largest shifting sand dunes in the southern hemisphere. For a more relaxed pace, spin around the Stockton Sand Dunes on camelback at Oakfield Ranch. The ranch offers 20-minute camel rides everyday — kids as young as two can ride during the day, or if everyone in your crew is over 10, you can enjoy an hour-long sunset ride.
TreeTop adventures
Get the kids out of the house and into the wild these school holidays with a day at TreeTop Adventure Park. Once you’re harnessed, get up-close to native Australian wildlife and magnificent gum trees, as you climb, weave and fly through the treetops on self-guided rope courses. There are over 100 elevated obstacles with rope ladders, wobbly bridges, tunnels, cargo nets and zip lines. Children as young as three can join in on the fun with parental supervision. There are five TreeTop adventure parks in New South Wales; the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Hills district, Western Sydney and Coffs Harbour.
Have a farmstay staycation
Give the kids a taste of the rural outback life at Corynnia Station. Cycle through the property, explore the farm’s cotton and grain crops, and spot native fauna on the expansive dry box swamp. There’s a luxe side to station life, too, with a pool to cool off in after a round of tennis, boules, or croquet. Be sure to book ahead for farm tours and the nearby Altina Wildlife Park, where you can ogle a menagerie of animals from a horse-drawn cart

Keep your young explorers occupied these school holidays with a trip to one of NSW’s zoos and wildlife parks. Meet koalas, kangaroos at Featherdale Wildlife Park in Sydney’s west, or plan a trip to Sydney's Taronga Zoo and get up close to a wide range of international species including Sumatran Tigers, giraffes and meerkats.
Walking tracks in Sydney
No matter where you are, there’s always a quality walking trail to tackle. Just 20 minutes of the Sydney CBD, Lane Cove National Park (pictured) takes you through scenic bushland along the banks of the Lane Cove River and into Sydney Harbour. In Sydney’s West, there’s the scenic Lake Parramatta track, which takes around two hours to complete – and makes for a great picnic spot.
