Doha's hot, humid climate makes daytime wandering sometimes hard going, but of an evening and morning, the weather is truly pleasant. One of the most enjoyable walking journeys in Doha is an evening stroll or ride along the city's scenic and impressive Corniche. The Corniche Promenade runs the entire length of Doha Bay, a distance of seven kilometres, so there's plenty of opportunity to stretch one's legs. Set out from your serviced apartments and head north to Al Corniche St and Corniche Promenade. Turn left and pass the Pearl Monument. Further along, Al Bidda Park is an idyllic green space next to the Qatar National Theatre. In the West Bay area, why not try the elevated traditional fare at the Em Sherif Restaurant, overlooking Doha Bay and with spectacular views back to the city.
A CELEBRATION OF ISLAMIC ART

Katara Cultural Village is Qatar's premier cultural hub, a self-described beacon of art. The site is genuinely gargantuan in proportions and needs to be seen to be believed. Some of the most notable venues include the resident amphitheatre, Dram Theatre, Opera House, the Golden Masjid, and the Katara Mosque. The site features a rolling feast of year-round cultural festivals and arts events, exhibitions and shows. Top events include the Katara European Jazz Festival and the Qatar International Art Festival, but be sure to check ahead and see what's on. Katara Cultural Village is located northward from your apartments in Doha, just south of The Pearl Qatar.
ART IN THE DESERT
True to Qatar's aim of being the Middle East's cultural capital, art can be found in the most unusual places. In the middle of the country's western desert, about an hour's drive from your apartment hotel stands renowned American artist Richard Serra's epic masterpiece, "East-West/West-East". The sculpture consists of a series of four massive steel plates that were crafted in Germany, then wheeled into the desert to be craned into place. The piece adds to the mystery and magic of the arid Qatari desert. Over time, the elements will work their own magic on the pillars, changing the relationship between the artwork and the landscape that surrounds it.
HUNT DOWN A BARGAIN
If you're after something different from Doha's glitzy, ultra-modern malls, head down to Souq Waqif located only a few blocks away from your serviced apartments in Doha. The labyrinth of narrow passages provides an authentic, old-world charm. The souq is an ideal place to pick some traditional textiles, fragrant Oud, ceramics or antiques. Feel free to barter; the stall owners welcome it. After a while on your feet, select one of the local restaurants or small, casual cafes to hang out in for a light meal. Afterwards, head to the nearby Falcon Souq on the edge of Souq Waqif to learn about the sport of Arab royalty, Falconry.
