La Défense is far more than Europe’s most impressive business district. It is increasingly a destination in its own right — with a cultural and musical programme that
rivals the continent’s finest venues, extraordinary public spaces, and transport connections the rest of Paris can only envy. Whether you are looking for things to do in La Défense this summer, searching for the best place to
stay for Paris concerts, or simply planning a few days in the French capital, everything you need is right here.
With 40,000 seats, the Paris La Défense Arena is the largest indoor arena in France and one of the most impressive in Europe. Its unique U-shaped configuration ensures exceptional visibility from every seat, whether you are in the pit, the stands or a premium box. Since opening, it has welcomed Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Linkin Park… and this summer, the programme raises the bar even higher. If you have ever wondered where to stay for a Paris La Défense Arena concert, the answer is closer than you think.
Damso 28, 29, 30 & 31 May: Four consecutive nights. One of the most anticipated artists on the French-speaking
scene takes up residency at the Arena in a rare run that speaks to his status as a major artist.
Foo Fighters, Friday 19 June: One of the greatest rock bands of all time on the La Défense Arena stage. Dave Grohl and his band are a live experience in a class of their own. Do not miss it.
Iron Maiden, Monday 22 June: The legendary British band returns to Nanterre, true to their affection for this venue. An evening of authentic rock and extraordinary visual spectacle.
Bad Bunny, 4 & 5 July: The global Latin rap superstar brings his DEBÍ TiRAR MÁS FOToS World Tour to La Défense for two nights, following an unforgettable Super Bowl appearance. The musical event of the summer, without question.
Rocket League Paris Major, 22–24 May: For fans of esport and competitive gaming, this high-level international
tournament transforms the Arena into a digital arena. A fascinating experience for families and friends alike.

One of the best free things to do in La Défense — and one of the most underrated in all of Paris — is the open-air sculpture walk along the esplanade. Nearly 70 monumental contemporary artworks are scattered across the pedestrian plaza stretching from the Esplanade to the Grande
Arche, free and accessible at any hour. The collection began in the 1970s as the first towers took shape. Since then, each generation of artists has left its mark on what is
now one of the largest outdoor art collections in Europe..
Works Not to Miss :
• Alexander Calder — Le Grand Stabile Rouge: 15 metres
tall, 75 tonnes of red steel. A graceful giant spider presiding over the heart of the esplanade. Calder himself chose its position in 1976.
• Joan Miró — Les Personnages Fantastiques: A pair of
12-metre sculptures with free-flowing forms and vivid primary colours — a joyful counterpoint to the austerity of the surrounding towers.
• Takis— Le Bassin Takis: 49 multicoloured luminous
masts planted in an aquatic basin. At night, they flicker like a parallel, dreamlike skyline.
• Yaacov Agam — La Fontaine Agam: A colourful, kinetic
monument at the heart of the esplanade. One of the most photographed works in the district.
• César — Le Pouce: A monumental 12-metre cast of a
human thumb. Hard to miss, impossible to forget.
• Raymond Moretti — La Cheminée: 32 metres high, built
from 672 brightly coloured fibreglass tubes. What Joseph Kessel once nicknamed “the Monster.”
• Richard Serra — Slat: Five steel plates weighing 25
tonnes each, transforming the surrounding space into a sculpture you can inhabit.
Guided tours with commentary are organised by the Nanterre tourist office — a great way to discover what to see in La Défense beyond the most visible works and understand the district’s architectural history. The interactive map of all 69 works is available at parisladefense.com.
Each summer since 2018, the Les Extatiques exhibition has enriched the permanent collection with temporary contemporary installations — always free, always surprising, and among the best free events in Paris this summer.
Garden Parvis 2026: The Big Free Festival
18 June to 30 July 2026, the La Défense forecourt transforms into an open-air festival. This year, Garden Parvis expands to six weeks for the first time — up from four in previous years — with two live concerts per week, DJ sets four days out of seven, participatory battles, open-air clubbing nights, a music quiz bingo, Latin music evenings, children’s activities and giant karaoke. All across 5,600 m² of festival space with deckchairs, food trucks, bars and terraces. Free entry. Open to everyone
La Défense Jazz Festival: An Institution Since 1977
Every June, the La Défense Jazz Festival transforms the forecourt into an open-air jazz stage. Free, eclectic, open to all — from jazz legends to emerging young talent. A
week of concerts at lunchtime and in the evening, covering every style: soul, gospel, electronica, world music. A landmark event for nearly 50 years.
Westfield Les 4 Temps: Shopping and Dining
Located directly beneath the esplanade, Westfield Les 4 Temps is one of the largest shopping centres in Europe, with more than 220 shops. In summer it also provides a
welcome air-conditioned retreat. For dining, the choice is wide: French brasseries, Asian restaurants, street food counters, café terraces… An ideal stop for dinner before a concert or lunch after a city walk. Also worth a look is the CNIT, one of the district’s very first buildings (1958), whose concrete vault spanning 220 metres remains an architectural masterpiece to this day.
