Usually, a Sunday morning in Barcelona has quite a calm atmosphere and you can find yourself walking around some tranquil streets. It all changes though when it comes to the second Sunday in March as thousands of people descend upon Plaza Espanya in shorts just before the sun rises to stretch their legs and limber up for one of the best marathons in Europe, The Barcelona Marathon. What is the Barcelona Marathon?
It is an annual race that sees runners from around the world take part in full and half marathons that will see runners whizz by most of the city’s major monuments and attractions.
When does the 2020 Barcelona Marathon take place?
The Barcelona Marathon takes place on Sunday 15th March. The official starting line of the marathon is on Avinguda María Cristina. ***This has been postponed to October
What time does the Barcelona Marathon start?
Everything kicks off at 8:30 am, with the first runner expected to cross the finish line around 10:35 am after a whirlwind run around town.
Why is the Barcelona Marathon special?
Runners love it because the majority of the race route is flat. Elevation never gets beyond 65m, so runners can get a good stride and push harder.
