Street Food
Eating out is a passionate business in Bangkok for Thais and visitors alike, and some of the greatest and most memorable foodie experiences are to be found in the street food. The restaurants are basic, the vendor stalls offer pavement seating, but the food itself is glorious, usually prepared by families who have been doing this for generations.
Located in the heart of the city, Fraser Suites Sukhumvit offers unparalleled convenience with its proximity to Nana BTS station and Sukhumvit MRT station. This prime location makes it easy to explore Bangkok's vibrant street food scene and nightlife.
Our concierge is always available to provide you with all the information you need to reach these exciting destinations. Whether by BTS Skytrain, MRT subway, or taxi, getting around from our city centre hotel is a breeze. Feel free to contact our concierge to arrange your travel plans effortlessly.
Ghost Gate
Pratu Phi, the Ghost Gate, is an area of the city famous for its collection of tiny eateries and food stalls. Best known of all are Jay Fai, the only street food restaurant in Bangkok to hold a Michelin star, and Thipsamai, loved for what is probably the country’s national dish, Pad Thai.
Locals and tourists alike also come here for the Hainan chicken rice with a chilli dip, roasted honey duck, stir-fried seabass with celery, fried squid, fluffy crab omelette, crispy pork, stink beans with shrimp, and rat na, a rice gravy noodle with garlic, straw mushroom and kale that comes with a selection of pork or seafood.
Chinese-style grass jelly desserts, and steamed buns dipped with pandan or egg custard are amongst the sweets.
Chinatown
Yaowarat runs through the centre of Chinatown and here the street food is the real, authentic Chinese thing, the recipes having arrived with the inward migrations of years ago.
Sizzling mussels and bean sprouts omelette presented on a cast iron plate, whole steamed or deep-fried fish served with different varieties of sauce, huge barbecued prawns, crabs, soups crammed with seafood, fishballs made from freshest fish for moist texture and served with homemade egg noodles, Cantonese wonton noodles with barbecue pork, dumplings stuffed with fresh shrimp, and goose and duck prepared in every possible way are just a few of the specialities.
Desserts to look out for include grilled buns loaded with condensed milk and rich chocolate, water chestnut in coconut milk, and black sesame balls with ginger soup.
Ban Tad Thong
This ancient part of Bangkok has recently become a hot spot for foodies after being named by Time Out as one of the world’s 30 coolest streets for its street food eateries, bars, and art venues.
Piping hot ginger soup, charbroiled marinated pork satay with peanut curry sauce, Chinese-style braised duck and goose, duck noodles and baked duck in a clay pot, wok-fried noodles with dark soy sauce, and fresh seafood such as steamed blue swimming crab, squid with spicy lime dressing, and deep-fried sea bass are some of the dishes that bring in the crowds.
The area is also good for desserts, notably black sesame dumplings in ginger syrup, flavoured shaved ice, and homemade ice cream with amazingly inventive flavours.
