The iconic building is dominated by its interior dome which reaches a height of 40 metres at its highest. A fully adaptable grandstand seating plan allows for a capacity crowd of up to 8,500 people and 13,500 unseated.
After a competition to design and build an exclusive multi-use event space in the German city, construction began on 11 June 1907. The Festhalle was officially opened on 19 May 1909 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. At the time of its completion, the venue proudly had the largest domed roof in Europe.
The architecture of the building is significant as it was built in the neo-baroque style. An elegant domed rotunda graces the top of the building which superimposes the majestic lower architecture.
