Top Things to do in Riyadh
Riyadh is a vibrant city that is constantly evolving as it blends old and modern culture attracting visitors for leisure and business purposes. With plenty going on to keep you busy, here is a list of some of the top things to do in Riyadh.
Things To Do In Riyadh
Riyadh Zoo
Whether you are visiting for business or pleasure, making time for some exciting days out will make your trip a memorable one. As Saudi Arabia’s largest zoo, Riyadh Zoo sits on 55 acres and is home to over 1500 animals from 40 species. Witness tigers, monkeys, reptiles and more, all in terrains that replicate their natural habitats. For guests of Fraser Suites Riyadh, the hotel is conveniently located a 20-minutes’ drive from the zoo making a day out easy and fun. The Riyadh Zoo makes for the perfect family day out or an excellent activity for business travellers looking to take a break from their busy schedule.
Heet Cave
If you are looking for something a little different during your visit and want to experience some of Riyadh’s nature, a trip to Heet Cave is well worth it. Saudi Arabia is home to many amazing caves, some of which are ideal for exploring. What sets Heet Cave apart from other caves, is that it houses an underground lake. The cave is located at the face of Mount Al Jubayl in the small village of Wadi As Sulay and is less than a 45-minute drive from Fraser Suites Riyadh. Visit this beautiful sight, and if you are interested in cave diving, this is the place to do so. However, make sure you are either an experienced diver or are with tour guides who will provide you with the correct equipment.
Al Bujairi Square
Experience the Saudi culture and mingle with the locals at Al Bujairi Square. Sample Arabian cuisine with a variety of restaurants and coffee shops to choose from, this area is vibrant and excellent for spending an afternoon or evening after a busy day of work or sightseeing. If you happen to be there on a Thursday night, don’t miss the traditional sword-dancing performance. The show starts at 9pm and is a great addition to an evening out.
Al Rajhi Grand Mosque
Delve into the Saudi culture by visiting one of the area’s most beautiful and iconic buildings; Al Raijhi Grand Mosque. As the largest mosque in Riyadh, it is breath-taking and is one of the most monumental establishments in the city. However, this incredibly magnificent structure, which translates Friday prayers into seven languages, is more than just a mosque. It is home to two libraries, offers several courses including forensic science and holds up to 18,000 people in the men’s hall. Guests of Fraser Suites Riyadh can reach Al Rajhi Grand Mosque in less than 20-minutes by car. After a long day of sightseeing, retreat to the hotel and enjoy a delicious meal at the onsite restaurant. Enjoy your meal on the outdoor terrace while overlooking the swimming pool – the perfect ending to a long day.
Red Sand Dunes
Looking for a bit of adventure? You can head out of town and get behind the wheel of an ATV as you drive up and down the distinct red sand dunes. Several companies operate a service, so if you’re staying with us here at Fraser Suite Riyadh, the concierge staff can help you plan the activity.
We do advise that you go either in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun isn’t so intense.
Deerah Souk
One of the most popular attractions in Riyadh is the Al Masmak Fort. When you’re there to learn about the fascinating history of the area, make sure to pencil in some extra time and check out Deerah Souk, located near the fort.
It is one of the best representations of the bazaar culture you don’t get to see much of nowadays. Take time to go through the stalls and see all sorts. Don’t worry if you aren’t very good at haggling with the merchants, as you’ll find lots of quaint souvenirs here and hand-made gifts that are truly unique.
Sunset at Kingdom Tower
In our minds one of the top attractions in Riyadh is having the chance to visit the Kingdom Tower around dusk for a fantastic experience.
Taking the elevators all the way up to the 99th floor, you’ll get arguably the best view of the city. The sunset is usually around 7:30pm at this time of year, so getting to spend time watching the sun go down and the city begins to light up is the perfect photo opportunity.
