Further along, Al Bidda Park is an idyllic green space next to the Qatar National Theatre. ART IN THE DESERT
True to Qatar's aim of being the Middle East's cultural capital, art can be found in the most unusual places. In the middle of the country's western desert, about an hour's drive from your apartment hotel stands renowned American artist Richard Serra's epic masterpiece, "East-West/West-East". The sculpture consists of a series of four massive steel plates that were crafted in Germany, then wheeled into the desert to be craned into place. The piece adds to the mystery and magic of the arid Qatari desert. Over time, the elements will work their own magic on the pillars, changing the relationship between the artwork and the landscape that surrounds it.
HUNT DOWN A BARGAIN
If you're after something different from Doha's glitzy, ultra-modern malls, head down to Souq Waqif located only a few blocks away from your serviced apartments in Doha. The labyrinth of narrow passages provides an authentic, old-world charm. The souq is an ideal place to pick some traditional textiles, fragrant Oud, ceramics or antiques.
