One of the best places to take the kids in Leipzig is the Leipzig Zoo. This zoo is home to over 1800 animals from all over the world, making it a great place for learning about different species. The zoo also has a number of fun activities for kids, such as a petting zoo and a play area.
Another great spot for families is Augustusplatz. This large square in the city centre is filled with beautiful buildings and green spaces, perfect for an afternoon stroll. In addition to its beauty, Augustusplatz also offers plenty of things to do, including museums, theatres and restaurants.
If you are looking for something more active to do with your family, head on over to the Leipzig Botanical Gardens. This large park is home to a variety of gardens, as well as a playground and a petting zoo. The park is also the perfect place for a picnic on a sunny day.
You won't have to go far if your children love slides, swings, or seesaws in Leipzig. Throughout the city, you'll find a variety of free playgrounds to visit with the family. If you want something more thrilling, make your way to Central Germany's biggest amusement park, the Belantis, an adventure kingdom, where roller coasters, swing boats, and Europe's tallest pyramid await.
At some point in their young lives, your children have undoubtedly wondered what it would be like to be a real princess or brave knight. This fantasy can come true in Leipzig. Take your family on a journey back through time and discover the magnificent Saxon castle landscape. Choose from Kriebstein Castle or Rochlitz Castle, to name a few. You'll be inspired by theme days, adventure excursions, and interactive history - all of which is only a stone's throw from Leipzig.
Does your youngster love trains? If yes, this is the activity for them! The Parkeisenbahn Auensee in Leipzig, opened in 1951, is a miniature railway operated by children and teenagers. Eight coaches provide space for up to 130 passengers during a ten-minute train ride around Auensee Lake.
The church of St. Thomas (Thomaskirche), a 500-year-old sanctuary where Johann Sebastian Bach composed and performed many of his works, is worth seeing as well (file this in the "your kids may not understand now but will thank you later" category). The children will also enjoy browsing through the local bookstores nearby.
Cossi Leipzig is a great place to take the kids for a day of fun. The park has plenty of activities for children of all ages, including a climbing wall, trampolines, and a playground. There is also a café on site, so you can relax while the kids play.
The Karl-Heine-Kanal is a beautiful canal that runs through Leipzig. The canal is lined with trees and flowers, and there are plenty of benches where you can sit and relax. The Karl-Heine-Kanal is a great place to take a walk or go for a bike ride with the family.

The city is absolutely stunning and there's plenty to keep kids entertained, from the Dresden Zoo to the Semperoper (an opera house) to the Green Vault, a treasure chamber in Dresden Castle.
If you're looking for something a bit closer to Leipzig, take a day trip to Halle an der Saale which is only about 30 minutes away by train. Halle is known for its beautiful historic centre and Marktplatz, as well as its excellent museums.
There are also plenty of great restaurants in Leipzig that offer family-friendly menus. A few of our favourites include the Ratskeller Leipzig, a traditional German restaurant located in the cellar of Leipzig City Hall, and the India House, an Indian restaurant with excellent curries and naan breads.
No trip to Leipzig would be complete without a visit to the Bach Museum Leipzig, which is dedicated to the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach. The museum is located in the historic Thomaskirche, where Bach himself served as music director for 27 years. The museum features interactive exhibits and displays of Bach's original manuscripts, as well as a multimedia theatre.
There are also plenty of other great museums in Leipzig for kids to explore, including the Museum of Fine Arts, the German Museum of Technology and the Natural History Museum.
Leipzig's impressive Town Hall, which dates back to the 14th century, is also worth a visit. The building features an ornate Gothic facade and a towering tower that offers excellent views over the city.
And finally, no visit to Leipzig would be complete without a trip to the park. There are a number of great parks in Leipzig, each with its own unique charm. Some of our favourites include Clara Zetkin Park and Goerdelerpark. These parks offer plenty of space for kids to run around and play, as well as playgrounds and other attractions.
